From Willie Wonka’s Scrumdiddlyumptious to Cauldron cakes on the Hogwarts express, there’s ample fictional food that has made our mouths water over the years and left us having to come to terms with the harsh truth that they don’t exist in the real world. Here’s some fictional food from fictional worlds the staff at Charles Grech Bistro totally wish existed.

1. Willy Wonka’s Treats – Charlie & The Chocolate Factory
From Willy Wonka’s edible chocolate leaves, giant cream-filled mushrooms and giant gummy bears to flavoured wallpaper and the epic chocolate river, absolutely anything from Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory is the epitome of every child’s dreamland. We’ve got a toothache just thinking about it.
2. The Gingerbread House – Hansel & Gretel
Lost in the woods, siblings Hansel and Gretel come across a mysterious hut. But this is no ordinary hut, mais non! It is one made of gingerbread, covered in frosting and colourful candy which the children can just pick and eat. Holy moly. #ChildhoodFantasies #HouseGoals.
3. Toffee Shocks – ‘The Faraway Tree’ Series
In Enid Blyton’s Enchanted Forest, there is the Faraway tree whose topmost branches lead to ever-rotating magical lands. The huge tree is populated by fairies and characterful inhabitants such as Silky, Moonface, Dame Washalot, Mr. Watzisname and the almost deaf Saucepan man. As though that weren’t reason enough to love the series, Blyton describes mouth-watering treats such as toffee shocks and google buns, which have a large currant in the middle, which when bitten, fills the eater’s mouth with delicious sherbet bubbles. However, it is Silky’s pop cakes that top the list, which ‘As soon as you bit into them, they went pop! And you suddenly found your mouth filled with new honey from the middle of the little cakes.’
4. Honeydukes – Harry Potter World
From Florian Fortescue’s ice-cream parlour to Hogwarts’ plentiful feasts, Rowling created such a wonderful fantasy world and such an obsessed fanbase that Harry Potter-themed parks have attempted to recreate fictional items like Butterbeer. Yet non-muggles are most spoilt for choice at Honeydukes – the legendary wizarding sweets shop in Hogsmeade, famous for its shelves upon shelves packed full of succulent arrays of any type of sweet imaginable. Large barrels of Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans, creamy chunks of nougat, Drooble’s Best Blowing Gum…
Just give us one of everything. You know, just to try.
